At Bluebird, we understand many of the difficulties that memory issues can create. Frustrations, concerns about safety, and eating right are all very common and lead to a state of constant worrying. It can be extremely frustrating for families when their loved one begins to ask the same question over and over or begins to do odd things that they never did before. Patience can run thin, and the natural reaction can also be, “Don’t you remember?” or “I just told you that!”
Safety can also be a concern. Wandering, leaving the stove on, putting something metal in the microwave, or leaving the water running in clogged sink can create life threatening situations.
Your loved one’s anxiety can run high. Have ever you heard them say, “Do you really need to go?”, “Can’t you stay just a little bit longer?”, or “Well, when are you coming back?” Many people may not know how to respond to these questions or have tremendous guilt when they have to care for their own families and lives.
Your loved one may not be eating right, forgetting to take medication, or taking the wrong medication! All these things can lead to serious health issues.
