Locally Owned & Operated

Paul & Kirsten Gross

The Gross family has been at the heart of Bluebird since it was a dream on a piece of paper.  Paul & Kirsten Gross are the current Owners, and their family is a staple in the lives of our residents.  They have always been big supporters within the local community.  Paul has served as County Commissioner, the President of the local Fair Board and has been a big supporter of the FFA, local churches, and hospitals both in London and Marysville.

Paul & Kirsten know our residents and play a crucial part in the success of Bluebird.  They are not only the owners but help set the perfect example of what it means to be truly invested in our residents and families’ lives and well-being.  Bluebird builds a common bond of family, experiences and dreams.  You will often find Paul & Kirsten visiting our residents and sharing a meal or cup of coffee.

They also make sure our residents live life and strive to find ways to create extraordinary moments for them.   At Bluebird, our residents have the opportunity to go on special outings and out to lunch every month.  Special things they have done for residents include taking residents on combine and hot air balloon rides to enjoying the county fair, fireworks, parades and shows put on by the local performing arts group.  Simply said, Paul and Kirsten want our residents to enjoy life to the fullest and have FUN.

Bluebird – A Dream that Became a Reality

Bluebird Retirement Community was born of a dream held by Jane Herman. With nearly seventeen years working in the long term care industry, she wanted to open a facility that would provide a higher standard of care for residents. After deciding to collaborate with her best friend and new business partner, Jane’s dream came true in December of 2014 with the opening of our London, Ohio location. Our residents, our staff, and our community will remember her as a loving and caring individual whose unwavering dedication to success and providing superior care helped make Bluebird Retirement Community so special. Neither the Bluebird team, or Paul Gross, her Bluebird partner, will ever forget the impact that Jane had on all of us.

Jane helped make Bluebird Retirement Community unlike any other senior living community—one that embodies and emphasizes a personal touch.  Paul will tell you, “she was the best business partner that I have ever had”. Jane’s motto was “the answer is always yes to our residents,” and she always found a way to make that vision a reality and we still lead with that motto today!

Special Memories

Roy and Lorraine

While there have been countless examples of creating special memories for our residents, one of our favorites is when Paul made an extraordinary moment in the lives of Roy and Lorraine.   Roy and Lorraine had lived in Chicago their entire lives, but were moving to be closer to family here in Ohio.   The day they were moving in, Paul took some time to get to know them.  During the visit, Paul quickly learned that Roy & Lorraine were diehard Cubs fans!  They lived and breathed their “Cubbies”…. so when it happened that the Cubs finally made it to the World Series and were playing the Cleveland Indians – Paul knew what he needed to do.  He coordinated a very special day for Roy & Lorraine—getting 3 tickets to the World Series in Cleveland and surprising them with a trip up to game.  Paul drove them up to the World Series, but not without a couple unexpected bumps.  It just so happened that the NBA was having a big Award Ceremony for the Cavalier’s Championship that evening as well –  so traffic was terrible, and the parking garage that he had a parking pass for right next to the stadium was filled.

Paul had to think quickly as he was determined Roy & Lorraine would not miss opening pitch.  So, he parked the van next to a police officer that was manning the garage and told him that these two cannot miss the game.  The officer said he might have to tow the vehicle, but Paul let him know that they weren’t going to miss the first pitch, and vowed to come back once they were settled in their seats, and park 15 blocks away if needed.

Paul got Roy out of the van and into his wheelchair and Lorraine into her walker and guided them both to their seats.  When Paul came back to the van, the officer was gone but the van was still there! All three enjoyed watching the game, eating hot dogs and sharing a once in a lifetime experience.

Lorraine would later go on to share that the kindness shown to her and her husband would never be forgotten…they were able to go to the World Series and see the Cubs play, celebrate their wedding anniversary together and share precious moments while at Bluebird.

Family Culture

Paul and Kirsten have established a culture at Bluebird where the word “family” means something. Residents and staff become family, and we treat our residents as family.

The Gross Family is a hard-working Midwest family born from hard work, dedication, loyalty and fun.  The Gross family is from the Mid-West and born from hard work, dedication, loyalty and fun.  In fact, both of Paul’s parents actually lived at, and were very proud residents at Bluebird!
